Dubai Metro in Guinnes Record

Guinness World Record awarded to Dubai Metro
The Dubai Metro, comprising the red and green lines combined, has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest driverless metro network in the world spanning 74.695 kilometers.
The achievement is a further addition to the achievement already made by the Dubai Metro Red Line in September 2011 in setting a Guinness World Record as the longest driverless metro line in the world extending 52 km.
The metro stations feature a creative and distinctive architectural design pattern, and are been fitted with the latest safety and security techniques. Parking lots have been allocated for private vehicles and public buses in each station.
The total length of the Green and Red Lines combined amount to 74.694 km of which 52 km are on the Red Line, and 22.694 km are on the Green Line. The metro has a total of 47 stations of which 29 stations are on the Red Line and 18 stations are on the Green Line.
The two lines intersect twice; first at the Union Station which is the biggest underground metro station in the world spanning an area of 25,000 square meters, and second at Khalid bin Al Waleed Station; which is one of the most stunning metro stations in the world, thus enabling users smooth transfer between the two lines through these two stations
Talal Omar, Regional Director of Guinness Book of World Records in the Middle East, said: “The Certificate has been awarded to the Dubai Metro following a tour by a team from the Guinness Book of World Records on the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro where measurements of the two lines have been taken.” He expressed his delight to have this global achievement registered in the name of Dubai Emirate to embellish Arab achievements records.
Talal was highly impressed by the Dubai Metro project and the fabulous design of the metro stations featuring different themes of water, air, fire, and earth as well as the iconic heritage-inspired designs. He also admired the functionality of the system citing the orderly and disciplined users of the metro as well as the rapid growth in the metro ridership which is continuously on the rise.

Global Airlines capacity to Soar

Global Airline Capacity Continue to Soar
The growth in scheduled flights worldwide continues again in February with airlines providing 5% more flights. In line with the general worldwide trend for larger aircraft, this translates to a slightly larger capacity increase (of 6%) as the average available seats in February 2012 nudges towards 127 per aircraft versus 125 in the same period last year. This marks the ninth consecutive month of growth compared to the same period last year, according to the latest statistics from OAG, a UBM Aviation brand.
The OAG facts for February 2012 reveals that market demand continues to increase the greatest in Central and South America and across the Middle East, all three regions recording double-digit growth, surpassed only by the total volume growth in Asia Pacific of 8.9 million seats in February compared to twelve months ago. To put this volume growth in perspective, Asia Pacific and South America represent 64% of the total worldwide volume growth.
Five of the top ten airports by growth in February (year on year) are now in Asia / Pacific with Bangkok, Beijing, Jakarta, Singapore and Manila representing almost 3.5 million additional seats in the month. The battle for number one Airport continues to heat up as Beijing further closes the gap on Atlanta this month which now stands at a mere 251,000 seats per month – compared to some 826,000 twelve months ago.

London Flights resumes

Gulf Air London Flights resumes
Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, yesterday (February 6) resumed its London flights after snow and freezing temperatures in the UK forced Bahrain's national carrier to cancel its Heathrow operations on Sunday.
Around half of the 1,300 flights due to be handled by the airport were called off after around 10cm of snow fell over the UK in 24 hours.
They included two Gulf Air flights to London - one at 1.30am and the other at 10am - as well as the corresponding return journeys.
The airline informed its passengers not to travel to Bahrain International Airport and Heathrow for UK flights on Sunday, but a spokesman said those who did were found overnight accommodation.
Normal operations resumed yesterday, the airline spokesman added.
"The flights at 1.30am and 10am left as usual and on schedule," said the spokesman.
"All backlogs, resulting out of the cancellation of the flights on Sunday, have also been cleared."
