Worldhotels eyes India

Worldhotels eyes India as business travel booms
Hotel marketing umbrella group Worldhotels is to expand into India in recognition of the burgeoning business travel sector in the region.

The group will open its first office in the subcontinent in Delhi which will be overseen by new appointment Naresh Chandnani, who becomes regional director of hotel development for India and the Maldives.

Worldhotels says it has seen its portfolio in India increase from five to nine properties in the last few months and plans to add another 12 by 2012.

New Indian properties to join Worldhotels include the giant Aamby Valley City in the Sahayadri mountain range, Matthan Bangalore in India’s IT hub and the Svenska Mumbai which is close to the Bollywood studios.

The group already markets The Claridges Hotel Delhi, Mumbai’s Sahara Star, Chennai’s Asiana Hotel and the Pride Park Premier in Gurgaon, New Delhi.

Managing director of Worldhotels Robert Hornman said: ‘‘India is one of our fastest growing emerging markets and so opening a dedicated office is a significant step for Worldhotels in expanding its presence on the sub-continent.

“With our growing portfolio and the added impetus of our newly opened office in Delhi, Worldhotels is well-placed to capitalise on this dynamic market. Our priority is not only to build upon our existing network, but also to focus on destinations not yet covered, such as Pune, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Udaipur, Goa and Kerala.”
