World’s busiest Airport

World’s busiest Airport in 2015 will be in Middle East
Dubai International will be the busiest airport in the world in three years time, according to growth trends.
With the Middle East showing greater resilience to the global economic downturn, UAE residents becoming wealthier, GDP climbing and greater liberalization, Dubai’s air passenger numbers have been growing as the western world’s have been in decline.

Dubai Airports said yesterday its ten year traffic forecast for Dubai International and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International (currently a cargo hub but set to receive passengers from next year) will increase at an average annual growth rate of 7.2% and 6.7% respectively, outperforming industry projections for average annual growth of 5% globally.

In 2009, Dubai Airports saw international passenger numbers grow by 9.1%. Since 2005, the airports authorities say traffic has almost doubled from 24.8 million to 47.2 million last year.

Dubai Airports chief executive officer Paul Griffiths said: “Based on the current pace of growth we are seeing in other large international airports, Dubai International should become the busiest airport in the world for international passenger traffic as early as 2015 when passenger numbers are projected to exceed 75 million.”

The forecast also shows that by 2020, passenger numbers should reach 98.5 million.

Concourse 3, the first facility dedicated to the A380, will open at the end of 2012 at Dubai International.
