Impeyan Pheasant

The national bird of Nepal is the Impeyan Pheasant (Danphe in Nepali) Himalayan Monal, one of the most beautiful birds to be found in the country. Occurring at Himalayan elevations it is described as a guide to Lord Shiva, who dwelt in the Himalayas, according to Hindu mythology. The coat of arms in use before 30 December 2006 a Pheasant along with others.
Locally known as dafai as well, or the bird of nine colours, this is the national bird of Nepal and is found in the high altitudes of the Himalayas, inhabiting the rockycrags and gorges up near the tree line. Winters are brutal and they typically forage in small groups digging for tubers on the icey slopes. When the sun shines, the reflection off the matalic feathers of males blends in with the ice and they are perfectly camouflaged.

Nepal is a secular state and it respects the practices and existence of different religions within its territory. Nepalese people are mainly divided into two distinct groups: the indo-Aryans and the Mongoloids (the kirants). The Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines are scattered all over the country. Nepal is the birthplaces of the lord Buddha, the herald of peace. Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians and people of other religions live together here in perfect harmony. The people's movement in June 2006 overthrew centuries-old shah Dynasty and declares Nepal is a federal Democratic republic of Nepal on May 28, 2008.

Nepal's new prime minister elected by parliament after months of failed attempts  was sworn in on Sunday but was unable to name a Cabinet because of continuing negotiations with his main coalition partner over key positions, Jhalnath Khanal was sworn in by President Ram Baran Yadav at a ceremony in Katmandu. He was chosen by parliament on Thursday, seven months and 17 attempts after the last government resigned amid sometimes violent protests. Nepal’s tourism sector is keeping a close eye on political developments while assuring its international partners that the Nepal remains to be a very safe destination. The sector’s vigilance was prompted by international news reports covering the turmoil in Yemen, Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt which seems to have created some fears amongst international travellers.

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal which is also the largest city in the whole country. This mysterious city can seem, in places, to be a huge intricate sculpture unchanged since the Middle Ages. At other times it can be just another Third World capital rushing carelessly into the 20th century. For many people, arriving in Kathmandu is as shocking as stepping out of a time machine - the sights, sounds and smells can lead to sensory overload. Streets and lanes are narrow with carved wooden balconies leaning over tiny shops. Squares packed with extraordinary temples and monuments, markets bright with fruits and vegetables and a constant throng of humanity. Basantapur Musuem has a large collection of historical Rana belongings and paintings. The house itself is one of the most beautiful architectures of ancient Nepal. Do not forget to climb the nine storey wooden palace. The view of the Kathmandu city from the top of the palace is awesome.

Other beautiful cities in Nepal are Pokhara, Janakpur, Lumbini, Tansen, Palpa. Pokhara offers the most scenic views of the mountain known as Annapurna Range. In fact most of the popular trekking in the western Nepal starts from Pokhara. Janakpur has the most beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Rama. Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Tansen and Palpa are some old but beautiful towns.
